Whether planning a corporate film or your next film which features an African, village, savannah or city you should definitely consider Kenya as your location of choice and here is why:
1.Gorgeous Locations
Kenya is a beautiful land and every where you look is a set! You will be lost for choice on where to point your cameras everyday. We have very experienced local local guides and scouts who can give you access to the most difficult locations. They have learnt the art of persuasion and negotiation so that you don’t loose money when you hit the road.
If you want to film in kibera or Mathare we can make it possible!
2.Amazing crew
Even though Kenya does not produce that many films it has excelled at film servicing. Kenyan crew have worked on some of the biggest hollywood blockbusters shot in Africa going back to the late 70s and 80s. Most of the crew that worked on films like Gorilla in the Mist are amazingly still in play and have grown to train others to form a solid crew for any type of production.
3.Beautiful people
Yes we do have many animals and parks but how long can you stare at the giraffe or the lion? We have some of the warmest and very hardworking people for your next project. Always willing to help out sometimes you have to turn down the offers. Kenyans always wear a warm genuine smile that you will dream of long after you go back to your country. Never a dull moment on set!
Set sometime aside for some chai (tea) during breaks!
4.Natural light
The country lies bang on the equator so you are guaranteed of a solid 12 hr day on most shoot days. This of course saves you money and time you would spend on hiring artificial lights for your scene. Be warned it can get very high contrast around mid day so plan ahead or bring along soft diffusion.
Also please rehydrate accordingly as temparatures can get to 38-40 degrees in some locations. Some lip bam,Sunscreen lotion, steriliser fluid and mosquito repellant will always come in handy! ooh yes drink lots of water! water! water!
We cant always promise it will be sunny but thats why rainy days are for so onto Plan B….!
5.Talented cast
By now you probably know whom Lupita Nyongo is, guess what we have no shortage of such amazing talent! We have a vibrant theatre culture that runs all the way down to the villages and you will be surprised with some of the performances that you will encounter with actors who have never had any formal training. Its just natural! Be prepared to cast widely but you will not be disappointed.
6.Availability of equipment
Whether lighting or Grips we have the two main leading rental houses in the region that service films as far as Ethiopia and South Sudan. Kenya Grip have a partnership with Panavision while Film Studios Kenya work very closely with Arri. Your local film agent can negotiate the best deals for you.
If you don’t plan to bring your own camera no worries there are few Reds and Alexa’s from individuals/companies who can rent them out to you.
7.Reliable support services
You can rest assured that your shoot will always start on time everyday. Kenyan film suppliers are very reliable and if they say they will be there at 4am they will be. From catering, transport, medics, hotels and unit you will always be well covered.
8.Tight security
We don’t take your security lightly and the Kenyan police are always ready to support film production in kenya by always forwarding a few armed officers along for a small fee, just remember to pick and drop them at their station at the end of the day. The size depends on your budget and needs of the location. This always helps to ward off curious onlookers and secure your equipment and set at all times.
We cannot always predict how things will turn out but if you plan carefully everything should run smoothly. Planning to shoot in Kenya? ADMS can service your production with ease. We have deep relationships with the people and suppliers to make your dream come true.
Happy Shoooooting!
